Atlantic Forest Ecosystems: Are There Significant Differences When Compared at the Same Stage of Regeneration?

چکیده

For the monitoring and assessment of Atlantic Forest ecosystems, key indicators regeneration stage are considered. However, current classification these stages by experts does not consider possible differences among such ecosystems. In order to test hypothesis significant differences, ecosystems in southern Brazil were compared at same (initial, medium, advanced regeneration). An extensive database floristic forest inventory Santa Catarina state, Brazil, with 460 sampling units, was used, addressing seasonal deciduous (SDF), dense ombrophilous (DOF), mixed (MOF). The each sample unit previously classified using five (basal area per hectare—BA/ha; number individuals hectare—N/ha; species—S; Shannon biodiversity index—H’; diameter breast height—DBH). Kruskal–Wallis method pairwise multiple comparisons based on Dunn’s procedure applied, considering two-way tests 5% significance, 95% power. statistical confirmed research hypothesis, namely, that had later instance, S DOF statistically higher (p < 0.001) than MOF SDF (44 ± 9); N significantly lower (394 248 mid-stage) (475 233) (545 173); H’ showed increasing towards more stages. Considering is main criterion for decision-making between suppression conservation results achieved should support review procedures applied successional Given demonstrated next steps research, we will evaluate propose specific standards ecosystem, i.e., intervals discriminating values applicable this biome.

Eye movements when looking at unusual/weird scenes: are there cultural differences?

Recent studies have suggested that eye movement patterns while viewing scenes differ for people from different cultural backgrounds and that these differences in how scenes are viewed are due to differences in the prioritization of information (background or foreground). The current study examined whether there are cultural differences in how quickly eye movements are drawn to highly unusual as...

Differences in Bird Communities on the Forest Edge and in the Forest Interior: Are There Forest-interior Specialists in Japan?

Most North American bird species that are less successful in small forests than in large forests, are forest-interior specialists that winter in the tropics. These species have declined in small forests because of high rates of nest predation and brood parasitism near the forest edge. To determine whether migratory forest-interior specialists are also important components of bird communities in...

When are two algorithms the same?

People usually regard algorithms as more abstract than the programs that implement them. The natural way to formalize this idea is that algorithms are equivalence classes of programs with respect to a suitable equivalence relation. We argue that no such equivalence relation exists.

When are two Workflows the Same?

In the area of workflow management, one is confronted with a large number of competing languages and the relations between them (e.g. relative expressiveness) are usually not clear. Moreover, even within the same language it is generally possible to express the same workflow in different ways, a feature known as variability. This paper aims at providing some of the formal groundwork for studyin...

1 When are Two Games the Same ?

1 Logic and games: historical encounters Logic and games have had several encounters in history. One major factor in the emergence of logic in Antiquity was a systematic interest in the rules of argumentation, which have a clear game-like structure. Games were mathematized for the first time, one might say, in the17th century: when Pascal and Huygens based their idea of probability on betting o...
